London, 1965 by Nathan Jones

This Kodachrome photograph, taken in the classic street style, was made by my father in 1965. I love everything about it: the subject matter, the colours, and that he made it. I can imagine the excitement that he must have felt as a young man from Rhodesia visiting England for the first time. The view is of the intersection between Shaftesbury Avenue and Coventry Street at the northeast corner of Piccadilly Circus. Note the advertisement for the Beatles’ “Help” adorning the London Pavilion at the centre of the frame. I find this to be an exquisite detail in the photograph.
